Belgian Malinois Pet Insurance News

The Canadian Department of National Defence went to the market in search of dogs. The department posted a notice on October 2, 2018, that it is looking for four young pops eager to work.

The dogs will be trained for several purposes. Some will serve as “single purpose” dogs and will be specially trained for detection. Some others will be trained for various skills such as detection, tracking, and patrol.

Although the notice did not state the amount the department is willing to pay for the dogs, from past records it has paid from $9,300 to $19,600 for each dog, depending on the dog’s age and the purpose for which it is purchased.

To be qualified, the dog is required to meet certain criteria. Firstly, they will have complete a demanding training program. This is followed by working in a challenging operational environment.

The opening is not for newborn puppies. The dogs must be between 10 months and 36 months at the time of selection to be eligible. Also, the dogs should not be previously trained; in military terms, they must be “green”.

Furthermore, the department is interested in only three dog breeds, namely, Belgian Malinois, German Shepherds, and Dutch Shepherds. It is also required for the dog to weigh between 45 to 80 pounds at the age of maturity. If you want to submit a dog for consideration, you will be provided to provide several documents as well as vaccination certificates, original X-rays of all the joints and limbs.
