Some people struggle when transiting from one job to the other but six-year-old Clumber Spaniel Josey thrived as she transited from search-and-rescue work to the Junior Showmanship ring.

Josey’s owner and handler Jody Davidson, of Cave Creek, Arizona, said: “she has an incredible work ethic and exemplifies a breeder’s goal of a sound mind in a sound body”. Davidson is a veteran in the dog show business, she has shown dogs for 55 years.

Davidson also said that Josey was the first in the Clumber Spaniel history to be certified in Search and Rescue (SAR). The dog has been deployed over a dozen times with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The dog and her owner trained 10 to 15 hours every week and they traveled over 12,000 miles every year for call-outs and trainings. When the dog was certified, she gets one or two call-outs a week, sometimes two in one night.

But due to Davidson’s recurring health issues, these came to an end. Josey had to quit her SAR work and Davidson got a new job for her as a Junior Showman or Show-Dog.

Davidson and her dog have a lot to offer Juniors. As a veteran in the field, she has bred, owned and co-owned over 70 champions from 15 different breeds.

Davidson said Josey loves people and especially kids. That’s what made her a good SAR dog. She also enjoys showing. Josey can stand on the grooming table for hours while a child trims or bathes her. Josey’s best quality is patience, Davidson said, and she can tolerate their mistakes with grace.
