St. Catharines is the sixth largest urban area in Ontario and the largest city in the Niagara Region. The city has a population of 133,113, based on the 2016 population census, and a land area of 96.13 square kilometers. The city is located at the southern part of Ontario, towards the south of Toronto. The city has the official nickname “The Garden City” because it has gardens, parks, and trails in almost 1000 acres. St. Catharines is located between the Canada-US border at Forte Erie and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
The city has manufacturing as its dominant industry; this is obvious from its motto “industry and liberality”. The largest employer in the city is the General Motors of Canada Ltd. Furthermore, the city is one of the major telecommunication pillars in the United States and Canada due to the number of call centers in the city. Also, St. Catharines has several interesting festivals, museums, art galleries, and theatres. Some of the most important and largest festivals include the Icewine Festival (takes place in Winter), the Niagara New Winter Festival (takes place in Summer), and the Niagara Wine Festival (takes place in Fall).
