Burlington is an Ontarian city, located in the Regional Municipality of Halton, towards the north of Lake Ontario. The city was established in 1874 and incorporated as a city in 1974 (100 years after its establishment). Burlington has a total land area of 185.66 square kilometers and therefore a population density of 946.8 per square kilometer.
The city of Burlington is close to large industries in southern Ontario. Its proximity to Hamilton and location in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), as well as its transportation infrastructure accords it its economic strength and diversity. The city’s economy has largely grown due to this diversity.
Burlington has several employers and none of the employers dominate the economy. The major industries in the city include electronics, packaging, food processing, environmental, business services, transportation, pharmaceuticals, and chemical. However, the top employers in the city include Cogeco Cable, Fearmans Pork Inc., Boehringer Ingelheim, EMC2, and Evertz Microsystems.
The city has interesting recreations, sites of interests and parks. Burlington has 115 parks and 580 hectares of parkland. It is home to the largest lilac collection in the world, the Royal Botanical Gardens as well as John Brant Museum and Ireland House. It also comprises several malls such as Appleby Mall, Burlington Mall, Mapleview Center, and so forth.
