After Holly Twoheart, a Winnipeg woman died on vacation in the Dominican Republic, his family is now left on the hook for thousands of dollars in funeral costs and medical bills while also trying to bring her body back to Canada.

Twoheart came back to Winnipeg on Monday, February 18, to mourn the loss of Danielle, her 26-year-old daughter who died on Friday after allegedly falling from a hotel balcony in Punta Cana just a few hours after they arrived at their resort. She passed away that afternoon after being taken a hospital where she was put on life support.

Since Danielle did not have travel insurance, Holly was on the hook for thousands of dollars on top of losing her daughter. Holly told Global News that they never knew the situation will turn out bad and she thought she doesn’t need it.

For the short hours, while Danielle was still alive, the medical bills started adding up. To raise money, Holly began calling her family and resorted to fundraising. According to her, the funeral people there said she has to pay $5,000 to get her body released.
