When St. Martin was ravaged by Hurricane Irma, a Montreal man, Olivier Dionne with family in the island has been calling on the federal government to send helicopters to rescue Canadians trapped on the island.

Olivier’s sister Melissa was living on the French side of the island for a year with her husband and two children. He received a text message from them that they were alive but no information was given about injuries and how they are doing.

When Dionne heard that other governments such as the United States are taking steps to rescue trapped citizens, he contacted the Global Affairs department to see if Canada can do the same. But surprisingly, he was informed that Canada does not have any plan to intervene but the representatives collected his sister’s information in case there are changes.
