Halifax Auto Insurance News

Drivers who cause minor accidents and paid for the damages cannot have their driving records penalized, the Nova Scotia government told auto insurance companies. The province said this while clarifying a section of its Insurance Act for at-fault drivers who got involved in accidents that did not result in injuries.

Karen Slaunwhite, executive director of the Insurance Brokers Association of Nova Scotia said that the problem resulted due to unclear wording in the legislation. While some drivers were given the option to control their premiums, some others were not.

Due to the clarification by the Nova Scotia government, the change took place on February 29, 2016.

Slaunwhite said that the change will favour consumers as it puts them in charge of managing their insurance costs. She added that there would be less confusion in the insurance marketplace because everyone will be treated the same way.
