Laval Funeral Insurance News

Hamza Cemetery in Laval is like most other cemeteries. It has a section with smaller headstones and graves carved out for people who died before they were born. The tombs of Shafia sisters lie side by side.

Ali Altaie, the director general of Azzahra foundation which manages the cemetery said that Muslims die just like other Québécois.

There are only two Muslim-run cemeteries in Quebec, Hamza is one of them. In these cemeteries, the dead are buried in line with Muslim tradition. They are washed, wrapped in cloth and buried facing Mecca. Most importantly, they are buried as soon as possible after death.

Altaie hopes that the peaceful co-existence (Vivre Ensemble) promoted in Quebec will be followed by the Quebec cemeteries (mourir ensemble). Altaie said we don’t have to give up our faith, history, and tradition to live peacefully together. He added that everyone has a choice to choose the way he wants to live and the way he wants to be buried but we all can live together and help the society together.
