London is an Ontarian city, located in the southwestern part of the province. It was incorporated as a city in 1855; the city was named after London England. According to the 2016 population census, London has a total population of 383,822 with a land area of 420.57 square kilometers; its metropolitan area has a population of 494,069 with a land area of 2,662 square kilometers. This makes it the 15th most populous city and the 11th most populous metropolitan area in Canada. London has a population density of 913.1 per square kilometers.
The economy of London is mainly based on manufacturing, information technology, medical research, and insurance. The London Health Sciences Center employs 10,555 people, making it the largest employer in the city. As of 2016, London houses 300 technology firms that employ about 3% of the city’s labor force. Several topnotch Canadian companies are founded in London such as London Life Insurance Company, Imperial Oil, GoodLife Fitness, Labatt Breweries, and Carling Breweries.
London also has several festivals, arts, and culture. Popular festivals in the city include the Home County Folk Festival, Sunfest, Rock the Park, the London Fringe Theatre Festival, the International Food Festival, Dundas Street Festival and so forth. It is also a home to oodles of museums such as Museum London, Museum of Ontario Archaeology, the Royal Canadian Regiment Museum, and so forth.
