Mississauga is an Ontarian city with a population of 721,599 in 2016 and a land area of 292.43 square kilometers; hence, its population density is 2,467.6 per square kilometer. It was established as a town in 1968 and incorporated as a city in 1974. Owing to its population size, Mississauga is the 6th most populated city in Canada, the third most populated in Ontario and the second most populated in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). According to the 2011 and 2016 population census, the city’s population grew from 713,443 in 2011 to 721,599 which is 1.14% population increase.
Mississauga’s proximity to Asia is the major factor responsible for its growth. The city has several topnotch corporations such as the Toronto Pearson International Airport, the busiest airport in Canada. Furthermore, more than 60 Fortune 500 companies have either their Global or Canadian Head Offices in Mississauga; some of these companies include Bell Mobility, EllisDon, Grocery Gateway, Hatch Ltd, Molly Maid, Abbott Laboratories, General Electric, Tech Data, Ecolab, Sara Lee Coffee & Tea, Hewlett-Packard, Wal-Mart, Nissan, Microsoft, Citi, Candu Energy Inc., and so forth.
