The Boerboel Owners Group addressed the misinformation and consistent bashing on the internet and the media relating to the breed. Some dog experts have been quoted to generalize the breed as possessing ill temperament and dangerous qualities, the Boerboel Owners Group says “nothing could be further from the truth”.

Ray St. James says he’s the founder and administrator of the largest South African Boerboel Group on Facebook with more than 8,000 members across the world. Rays said that the breed continues to have inaccurate information and the public is inundated with generalizations influencing their opinion on the breed with false characteristic traits and negativity intended to build a level of fear.

According to St. James, those who take time to research and understand the origins of the breed have come to recognize it as not only obedient and playful but also loyal and loving companions. He says that the responsible parties have managed to strip all the positive attributes from generations of hard work and dedication to the breed.

St. James argued that the actions of these parties are inexcusable. He further said that most breeds have been accredited with attacks at one time or another. Fatalities and attacks have been linked to breeds like Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Labradoodles, Huskies, Shepherds, and so on, he said.

“I have sat back and allowed attack after attack to take place out of respect for the poor woman who lost her life as that should be at the forefront and overshadowed in anyway… No more. This needs to stop”, he says, “the same way the human race cannot be judged by actions of a select few, the canine realm cannot be exposed to negative assumptions on a breed-wide basis. You must be held accountable.”
