Learn about Cardigan Welsh Corgis Pet Insurance

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi and Pembroke Welsh Corgi are close kins. Both originated from Wales and look alike but they are distinguished by their hindquarters. While the Pembrokes do not have tails, the Cardigans do. Cardigans are short-legged, long-bodied, deep-chested and low-set dogs with sturdy bones. They love to spend a lot of time with their family and are affectionate and fun loving dogs.

Cardigans are the older of the two sisters and one of the oldest British dogs. They were named after the medieval kingdom of Cardiganshire in Wales. The word “corgi” originally spelled as “kergie” is an ancient Celtic word for “dog”. It is believed that the Celts brought the ancient corgis to Wales from Central Europe about 3,000 years ago. The breed is highly valued for their skills in working, guarding, herding and companionship. In fact, they drove the Welsh herds some 1,000 years ago.

The second annual Corgi Beach Day was very successful as more than 150 corgis compete for prizes and had a great time at Spanish Banks.

Kevin Lee, a member of Corgis of B.C., which organized the event said that they had to ask people who do not have corgis not to come because they got too much attention for a small event and they had no permit.

However, Lee said they will do their best to get a permit for the next year’s Corgi Beach Day so that the event can be open to everyone, not just Corgis owners.

A dog named Theo clinched the first position in the corgi race and he got a prize pack with Earth Paws Pet Products. The dogs were asked to come in their best outfits in order to get a chance to win a monthly subscription to Paws Bento. A Corgi named Tako won the costume contest.
