Learn about Chihuahuas Pet Insurance

The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed with saucy expression and alert, swift-moving and compact body. It has a terrier-like temperament and is a national symbol of Mexico. The round apple-headed dogs weigh no more than 6 pounds. The breed can be recognized by the shape of their head but they occur in several patterns and colors. There are two varieties of the dog – the smooth and long coat Chihuahua.

Chihuahua is believed to be one of the oldest dog breeds in the world but its origin is unclear. However, the present day short-haired Chihuahua was discovered in the 1850s in the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. The breed was named after the state. The long-haired Chihuahua was created by crossing the breed with Pomeranians or Papillons.

As pets grow old, they become susceptible to certain health problems. Genetic diseases may easily manifest in older pets. This is why it is recommended for pet parents to get the right Chihuahuas pet insurance as soon as they purchase their pet to be sure that the dog is covered no matter the medical condition that develops.

It is also important to take out Chihuahuas pet insurance as early as possible. Most pets develop chronic illnesses when they age. Unfortunately, pre-existing conditions (medical conditions diagnosed before the start date of the policy) are usually excluded by most pet insurance providers. In other words, you may not get comprehensive Chihuahuas pet insurance if you do not take out the coverage as early as possible.

Chihuahuas Pet Insurance News

A dog that killed a chihuahua was designated as a vicious animal by Municipal councilors in Fort McMurray. During a council meeting held in November 2018, the case was presented to the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

The senior manager for RCMP support and bylaw services for the municipality, Deanne Bergey, presented her argument to confirm the vicious dog designation a dog named Stanley, a boxer mastiff cross.

Bergey said that Stanley’s owner is caring and conscientious but the public should be protected from the dog. He said the designation is to protect the public and other animals. A report submitted to the municipal council indicates that Stanley attacked a six-month-old chihuahua in June 2018.

The boxer-mastiff cross broke away from his leash, escaped through the front door of his owner’s house and attacked the chihuahua leashed to a door-step railing in another yard. Due to multiple puncture wounds to the ears and neck, the chihuahua died on the spot.

If classified as a vicious dog, current and future owners of the dog will be required to hold a minimum of $500,000 in liability insurance. Also, the municipality's bylaws will require the dog to be leashed and muzzled before leaving the owner’s property.
