About 2,500 people signed a petition to animal control in Hamilton. The petition is requesting the agency not to euthanize a dog that was involved in an attack which led to the man’s death.

But, the petition gave false information about the event. It said that the dog did not attack the man identified as Matthew Brigmantas before he died but the regional coroner Dr. Jack Stanborough debunked it.

Stanborough said there was obviously a dog attack and there are some injuries. Several people also reported that the dog identified to be a Shar-Pei Fila mix attacked Brigmantas and some people tried to stop the attack.

Stanborough didn’t go into details about the scope of the injuries but rather said that they were not lethal. He also said that it is difficult to say the role the dog played in the attack. To describe the dog’s role, he gave an analogy: “If I am riding my bike and someone pushed me in front of a train, the train technically killed me but the person was still involved”, he said.
