Cocker Spaniels Pet Insurance News

Jocelyn Bystrom, a Comox woman, was glad to get pet insurance for her Cocker spaniel, Ollie, but she hit several roadblocks when she filed a claim.

Ollie needed surgery to fix issues with his eye gland known as cherry eye. He recovered well from the surgery but it cost over $700. Since she had purchased pet insurance coverage from 24petWatch, Ollie thought that part of the cost would be covered.  The company stated in its website that it would cover hereditary and congenital diseases such as cherry eye.

“We are grateful that we have coverage”, Bystrom says, “and we assumed that we will be covered”. Even though the company assured her that her paperwork was complete, she faced obstacles when she made a claim. In fact, she had to submit Ollie’s medical history and veterinary bills twice.

Bystrom also said that she had spoken with several individuals in the company who said that they have received everything they needed to process the claim. 24PetWatch was pressured to come up with a solution but when a manager was involved in the case, a solution surfaced.

The company said in a statement that only medical records for the day of treatment were provided. They needed a complete claim form, itemized invoice, and complete medical history. The company had to reach out to the veterinarian to get the needed documents.
