Glen of Imaal Terriers Pet Insurance News

Glen of Imaal Terrier is very rare. An Ireland-based breeder was surprised when a Canadian family called to tell him that their dogs have produced a litter of pups.

Kenny’s family has two Glen of Imaal Terriers, Maggie, and Seamus, who produced seven Glen pups in their Oakville home.

The breeder said: “In Canada? No, that can’t be it. It must be something else”. The breed was so rare that the family got a call from a Grand Rapids, Michigan-based couple, who asked to buy the puppy. The surprising thing is that the family did not advertise the dog in the United States.

Within 10 weeks, most of the pups have gotten new homes, only two have not. Selena, Kenny’s wife, said they are usually gone like that when they are born. “You can't find these dogs anywhere”, she added. Before you knew it the remaining two pups were booked.

Glen of Imaal Terriers has been around since the 1700s. They came from Wicklow Ireland. Irrespective of their long history there are few registered breeders in North America and most are in the United States. However, you can find breeders in Ireland and Denmark.

The Kennys decided to breed Maggie and Seamus to promote the breed in Canada. He said that the breed is very beneficial. They don’t shed, they are loving, loyal and cute, he added.
