A Portuguese water dog Claircreek Faro Do Atlantico, bred by Donna Gottdenker and Joan Gatfield, makes the list of Canada’s Top Show Dog for 2017, clinching the first place.

This was the first time Portie will be crowned Canada’s Top Show Dog. Breeder Gottdenker did not just set a record with her Porties in Canada but her dogs also took the top spot in the United States.

The Portuguese Water Dog was handled by Edgar Rojas, a professional handler for 28 years who have been handling Porties for Gottdenker for the past 18 years. With this feat, Rojas has finally joined the elite group of those who handled a Top Dog.

Portuguese Water Dogs are also known as Obama Dogs because it was a breed chosen by President Barack Obama. Obama had two Porties, Bo and Sunny. According to CKC, Porties are known for their intelligence and stamina and for being loyal and affectionate family members.
