In a report from Pennlive, an 80-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound, Edgar, belonging to a Lambert family woke the family up on April 28 with rage-filled howls and barks.

Thom Lambert heard the sound of footsteps in the kitchen but on getting there, he only met broken window and an open door. When he checked the room, he found three of his daughters all still in bed.

Lambert told the police it was Edgar who alerted him. He told Pennville that the dog was sleeping on the floor when the police were clearing the floor with their guns drawn. The cops were surprised that the seemingly docile dog went nut.

A suspect, Thomas Dewald, 20, was arrested. Dewald confessed that he had been in the neighborhood looking for unsupervised children. Dewald was arrested in connection with the abduction of a 4-year-old girl who escaped from a wooden box when Dewald went to work.

Dewald said he had to pause when the Walker began to bark and had to decide whether to wait or run. He decided to leave due to the anger in the dog’s bark.

Edgar spent most of his four years on the street until he was adopted by the Lamberts. The dog was considered unadoptable by a West Virginia shelter. Lambert told Pennville: “It’s so damn impossible right now to think we got this dog for any other reason than it was meant to be”. “Everything had to happen in just the right way for him to be there at that moment”, he added.
