Learn about West Highland White Terriers Pet Insurance

The West Highland White Terrier or Westie for short is a smart, confident and entertaining dog breed that has been in existence for over 300 years. Westies have an irresistible look and they are strong and tough. The dog will always entertain himself and make you laugh. The dog knows that he is the best thing around and he is so full of himself.

Westies are an adaptable, trainable and intelligent dog breed. They stand no more than 11 inches at the shoulder. Canines in this breed are very affectionate. They can be described as “a big dog in a little dog’s body”.

The development of earthdogs capable of finding and dispatching rats was prompted by the need to protect grain stores from rodents in the ancient British Isles. Terriers of Scotland including Dandie Dinmont, Westie, Cairn, Scottish, and Skye terriers probably came from this. Westies came to the limelight in the 1700s when they were bred in Poltalloch by Edward Donald Malcolm.

No doubt, this dog breed possesses some interesting qualities but like any other breed, it may develop some critical illnesses as it grows old. Not every pet will necessarily develop critical illness but it is better to protect your pet with the right West Highland White Terriers pet insurance against any medical emergency, accident or illness.

To purchase the right West Highland White Terriers pet insurance, it is important to shop around and compare policy options to be sure you are getting the right coverage. You need to research the pet insurer and the insurance policy in order to choose the one that is most suitable for your pet.

West Highland White Terriers Pet Insurance News

Dorothy Byrne usually goes for painfully shy dogs. They are either unaware of human compassion or unable to accept it.

The 61-year-old takes in dogs through the Canadian West Highland White Terrier Club. She fosters them until they can find a permanent home.

Ms. Byrne said the dogs are timid when they are first rescued because they don’t let them out of the crates or socialize them.

According to Byrne, the dogs had never had a bath nor a haircut and they are covered in urine and feces. The amount of abuse they have been through is heartbreaking.

Ms. Byrne has a Westie named Maggie. While searching for suitable homes for the animals, she gives them as much training as possible. They visit a veterinarian regularly, take walks every day, and are made to feel loved constantly.

Through money collected from donations or fundraising events, the rescue agency covers all necessary expenses. The length of time the dog stays under foster care depends on how sick they were when they arrived but they stay in the foster home for up to two months.

According to Ms. Byrne, the animals experience a dramatic change from the time they arrived at the foster home to the time they move in with their new owners.
