Wirehaired Pointing Griffons Pet Insurance News

After a resident discovered the frightened and alone one-year-old dog, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Belvedere, near a warehouse, the Whitby Animal Services team rescued the dog, but his right hind leg was already completely shattered.

An animal control officer with the Town of Whitby said that Belvedere was basically dying when they first found him. They suspect he was hit by a car and due to the injuries, he went off the roadside.

When rushed to veterinary care, the only option was to remove most of his limbs due to the severity of the injuries. Woodward said that the situation is rare and that the dog’s back leg had to be amputated. “We don’t often have that happen to use”, he said.

No one has claimed ownership of the dog and there is no microchip or any identification on the dog. “That’s why it is important to have ID on your dog… if a dog does get hit by a car, we can contact the owner”, Woodward added.

Belvedere had been staying at the Animal Services office in Thickson Road but the team is looking for a new home for the Griffon. “All the staff love him. He is completely a different dog. He has put on some weight. He could use a little bit more weight put on him. He loves to have a bath”, Woodward said.
