Costa Rica Travel Insurance News

A couple’s ordeal in Costa Rica has revealed the overcrowding problem in Hamilton hospitals. The NDP Leader Andrea Horwath blames the overcrowding problem for the ordeal.

The couple, David Ronald and his wife, both residents of Hamilton, contacted Horwath after a misadventure in Costa Rica that left Ronald with a broken pelvis and back.

According to Horwath, Hamilton hospitals said there was no room for Ronald and as a result, he went through two surgeries in Costa Rica. Ronald, a Dofasco retiree, requires an acute care bed before he can be flown home for further medical attention.

The situation was so terrible that there was still no room for him four days later, Horwath added. However, the Health Minister Eric Hoskins argued that up to 10 ICU beds were available in most hospitals in Hamilton Niagara LHIN in the weekend but his office did not verify whether the insurer contacted every hospital in the region.
