Canadian tourists traveling to Cuba are advised to update their travel insurance documents and also re-evaluate their coverage.

As an agreement granting scheduled commercial U.S. airlines up to 110 flights to Havana and nine other outlying airports each day was signed, Canadians can expect increased competition as well as higher prices for Cuba goods and services.

According to the Cuba Tourist Board (CTB) located in Toronto, all visitors to Cuba are required to hold proof of health insurance that will cover them while in Cuba. The measure was first passed in 2010 and since then it applies to Canadians.

If visitors fail to hold such proof, they will be required to purchase coverage from an insurance company in Cuba located close to the respective ports of entry.
