Guatemala Travel Insurance News

A Guatemala family signed papers of their deportation on June 20, 2017, at an immigration office in Edmonton. The family’s four youngest children have citizenship in the U.S. while the parents and the oldest son have Guatemala citizenship.

Speaking through a friend, Adriana Hernandez who acted as a translator, Jilmar David Picon said that there are people in Guatemala who want them to die and that is why they are running away. The couple and their eldest son, Edison, will return to a town near the country’s western border with Mexico.

Picon said that he fears for his life. He also added that he was beaten by the gang members and was shot at.

The family revealed that a former co-worker of Picon’s wife Yolanda Duarte Martinez scammed them. The friend worked as a translator between them and a lawyer to help them apply for permanent residency on humanitarian and compassionate grounds. The Canadian Boarder Services Agencies told the family in November 2016 that none of the documents needed for the application was submitted.
