Guyana Travel Insurance News

A Fly Jamaica aircraft skidded off the runway following a hydraulic failure on November 9, 2018, in Guyana, Georgetown. As a result, an elderly Canadian woman, Rookhia Kalloo, was killed in the process.

Kalloo was 86 at the time the incidence occurred. The Boeing 757-200 aircraft was enroute to Toronto after leaving Cheddy Jagan International Airport in Georgetown, Guyana. According to Carl Bowen, the airline spokesman, there were 120 passengers on the plane and the right wing and engine of the airplane were badly damaged in the crash.

In a report initially issued by Fly Jamaica, after the landing two elderly passengers were taken to hospital as a precaution but no one was injured. 82 Canadians were onboard the flight.

According to Starbroek News, a Guyana newspaper, Kalloo was behaving oddly a day after the crash but she did not appear to be physically injured. She was admitted to the hospital on Monday, November 12, 2018, and was diagnosed with a head injury and she died a day after.
