So, it is important to have enough money and/or the right travel insurance to cover the potential cost in case of hospitalization, injury, accident or illness while in Iran.

Canadians are advised to be highly cautious when traveling to Iran due to the risk of arbitrary detention, crime, demonstrations and the regional threat of terrorism.

If you are a dual Canadian-Iranian citizen, you are particularly at risk of being arrested, detained and arbitrarily questioned because Iran does not recognize dual nationality. In other words, you should seriously consider traveling to Iran if you are a Canadian-Iranian dual citizen.

No matter your reason for traveling to Iran, you are advised to avoid all travel to certain regions. Canadians are advised to avoid all travel to the province of Sistan-Baluchistan bordering Pakistan due to the risk of terrorist attacks, kidnapping, and ethnic conflicts.

You are also advised to avoid all travel to the area within 10 kilometers of the border with Iraq as a result of the ongoing conflict in Iraq and the cross-border ethnic conflicts.
