Registering for a School in Edmonton
Designated schools are public schools, which are assigned to students in the Edmonton area using a system that will assign a school to your child based on area code. You simply need to pre-enroll your child by 4 pm on April 15. Then the system will designate a school automatically.
This will not always be the school closest to your home. However, you can change schools if the Division school of your choice still has space.
When choosing a school, it is worth considering:
- What your child's strengths and interests are
- What the school focuses on academically and in its programming
- The school's atmosphere and cultural beliefs
- Where it is and how easy it is to get to
- After-school childcare services
All the Division schools in Edmonton offer high-quality education throughout the school years. So wherever your child ends up, they are sure to get the best.

Online Learning with SchoolZone
EPSB SchoolZone isn't just for the parents. Students can also access their version of the site using their SchoolZone student log-in.
Since the Coronavirus outbreak in November 2019, this portal has become even more valuable. This helps students to keep in touch with their teachers and to stay up-to-date with their schoolwork. This has been the main site for online learning.
This year has also demonstrated that some students do better using online learning. Because of this, Edmonton Schools are going to continue offering this as an option to students for the foreseeable future. If you want to pre-enroll your child for online learning, please select enrollment for the Argyll Center.

Getting to School
There are loads of ways for your children to get to school. They might walk or you might drive them. However, 55% of the student population in Canada uses yellow school buses to make this journey!
These school buses provide students with a safe way to get to and from school. They follow regular routes and Transport Canada monitors everything from bus manufacturing standards to collision investigation and vehicle insurance. This means that you know your child is riding in a safe and regulated vehicle every day.
In order to use the yellow school bus service from the beginning of the school year in September, you need to apply by June 1 each year. If bus routes change during the year, you can apply for a different route when this happens.
Information about applying for the yellow bus service is all available on the SchoolZones website. This involves contacting your child's school about yellow bus service eligibility.
You then need to complete an online application for the yellow bus service. Current riders also need to reapply although this shouldn't take long.
Once you are approved for the yellow bus service, you will receive information about your child's bus route, including:
- Their stop locations
- Their bus pick-up and drop off times
- The bus company contact information
This information will also all be available through your Schoolzone EPSB Ca log-in.
Getting Involved with SchoolZone
There are loads of great ways to get involved with your child's school and its local community. This is a brilliant idea if you are new to the area and want to get to know people.
Parents can get involved by:
- Attending special school events
- Volunteering their time
- Joining the school council
You can also get in touch with your child's school to find out more about the support that they might need. When doing this it's a good idea to talk about any skills or resources you have that might help the school.
For example, if you run a local business, you might be able to create a sponsorship campaign for students in exchange for advertising. Or you could provide financial support for the school by making a donation. Schools also welcome involvement from:
- Community members
- Non-profit organizations
- Researchers
You can find out more, by getting in touch with the school directly.
